Common Name: Black Raspberry

‘Bristol’ (introduced in 1934) is a mid-season black raspberry cultivar that is noted for its excellent flavor. One berry crop each year is produced in early summer. Flowers give way to an abundant crop of glossy, non-seedy black raspberries of excellent eating quality.

It is essential you be cepatien and let the berries ripen fully black to enjoy their flavour. Vigorous and very productive canes have good cold hardiness.

 Black raspberries grow very much like a black berries. They do not send up runners like the red raspberries, instead they have a mother plant that send up cane. Each cane will grow, producing fruit in it’s second year. After the stem fruits it is cut away to allow room for new stems. A mature plant should be allowed to have 5-8 cane.  They do require some form of trellis to keep them off the ground as the do ramble. 

Caution: you should consider against  planting Red, Gold or Purple raspberries within 75-100 feet of Black raspberries. Black raspberries may be more susceptible to viral diseases carried by aphids to and from nearby raspberry plants
