Smoky burgundy-red flowers with white centers sizzle above the foliage on wiry stems. Commonly called Hattie’s Pincushion plant – pincushion is a perfect description of the flower heads. This plant is floriferous and a vigorous grower, producing beautiful blooms from early summer to fall.
Astrantia Star of Fire is prized for fresh or dried floral arrangements. Picking flowers results in even more blooms. For added interest, bracts remain attractive even after the flowers fade.
Astrantia is a wonderful woodland plant prefering moist, shady areas rich in organic matter. Excellent for the shady perennial border or for naturalizing along a stream. Plants bloom early to late summer on tall stems and they are excellent cut flowers.
