Canna 'Pretoria' Potted Plant
Common Name: Canna Lily, ‘Pretoria’, ‘Bengal Tiger’ canna
With striking banana-like, zebra striped foliage and brilliant melon-orange, torch like-blooms, Pretoria Canna brings home the hot tropics. The magnificent, large, apple-green leaves with creamy yellow and gold bands that are highlighted with a red pencil edging create quite a colour spectacle.
Pretoria Canna makes the perfect choice in containers or planted in the garden. Fantastic as stunning center pieces of floral arrangements. Only growing 3-4′ tall makes Pretoria an easy choice for many situations. Also Known as Canna Bengal Tiger.
Ideal for water gardens, ponds and bogs. They thrive near water and in wet boggy areas where other plants will not grow. Cannas bloom in the summer through till the fall.

Flower/Foliage Description: Large, vivid orange flowers stand tall in summer and mingle with a spectacular green foliage
Light Requirement: Full Sun to Partial Shade. Cannas bloom best in sunny locations.
Soil Type: It requires an evenly moist well-drained soil for optimal growth, but will die in standing water. It is not particular as to soil pH, but grows best in rich soils.
Hardiness Zones: 4,5,6,7,8
Attributes: Deer Resistant, Attracts Bees, Attracts Butterflies, Attracts Hummingbirds, Multi-Coloured, Award Winner
Care: Occasional Care, Remove flower stalks when they have finished blooming, Bulbs should be removed from the ground before first frost, then cleaned off and stored indoors in a dry area.
Bulbs: The bulbs can be replanted outdoors in spring, after the ground warms to 50 degrees or more or started inside early. If starting inside do this around early April. Water sparingly until sings of life start. I find it used to place the root in a bag of lightly moist potting soil and place this bag on a south facing windowsill. Cannas love heat so this method works well and is very quick.
