Flower/Foliage Description: Stems are short (less than 2.0” long and about 0.5” in diameter) or absent, sparsely branching.
Rosettes are 8.0-10.0” in diameter with up to 50 (or more) crowded leaves.
Leaves are 1.0-2.0”, 0.5-1.0” wide, thin, obovate to obovate-spatulate, tapering to a stalk-like base less than 1/8”wide, 3/5-4/5” long, with a small apical point (mucro). The leaves are hairless, glaucous green, flushed pink, with a margin finely crenulate or undulate-crispate, toothed near tips.
Each plant can produce one or two or several flowering-stems, each up to 1.0’ long and erect, simple, one-sided (second), with 1 – 2 cincinni up to 5.0” long with 12-15 nodding flowers.
Flowers have five-sided, pink sepals ascending, not appressed, tips slender and spreading. Flowers are all arranged to one side of the stalk (second) and usually hang down (typically nodding). Summer bloom (June onwards).Â
Light Requirement: Full Sun.
Soil Type: The soil plays a vital role in the plant’s health due to shaviana’s sensitivity to root rot. Plant in well-drained soil with compost added. A layer of pebbles and sand at the bottom will help with drainage and prevent rot from forming.
