Description

Common name: Rose Mallow

This hardy Hibiscus is such a show stopper with huge 7-9″ blooms.  They are late to bloom in the north but always put on a great show in mid Aug through till forst.

From the Walters Gardens, Inc. Hibiscus hybridizing program is this brand new red-flowering variety. Near-black buds open to huge 7”, scarlet red flowers that shimmer in the sun with a darker red eye. The overlapping petals of ‘Vintage Wine’ have a crinkled texture and open completely with minimal cupping. Flowers are produced from the top to the bottom of the plant, rather than only at the top like some older cultivars.

Dark green, heart-shaped leaves form a densely upright, columnar clump. Use this incredibly dense variety as a focal point in your sun garden.

*They are slow to show signs of life in the spring. Be sure to not disturb them. Sometimes coming up as last as mid June!

Hardy to zone 5. Zone 4 with heavy mulch.
