Description
Common Name: Red Hot Poker
This tropical looking variety will bring cool refreshing tones to the garden when it bursts into blooms! Coral orange flowers open creamy white on perfectly formed spikes. The beautiful bicolor flowers are produced above a large clump of foliage and blooms for many weeks beginning in early to midsummer.
The spiky flowers and upright habit gives a very unique drama to your landscape, with rebloom extending the color late into the season. Grass-like foliage provides textural contrast to bold-leaved perennials, like Hibiscus. These tropical-looking plants are hardy to USDA 6(Canadian 7) and possibly hardier if you provide protection. Reports of these surviving in Canadain zone 6 with protection. They also grow well in pots and overwinter in unheated shed/garage.
