Common name: Tree Peony
'Kamada-nishiki', sold under the trade name of Kamada Brocade. The dark purple petals of the large, semi-double flowers (6-8" across) almost obscure the bushy center clump of yellow stamens.
Tree Peonies are small deciduous woody shrubs, typically growing 3 to 4 ft x 3 to 4ft.They are slow growers in cold climates. Tree peony are not usually as hardy as Herbaceous peonies but certainly deserve their place in the garden. In our northern climate they can tolerate full sun. In the south they should be provided with light shade. Tree peonies do benefit from a sheltered location in the winter.
Does not require annual pruning.
