Common name: Tree Peony
'Shima-nishiki' is a woody peony (tree peony) with stunning color. Tree Peonies are small deciduous woody shrubs, typically growing 3 to 4 ft x 3 to 4ft. They are slow growers in cold climates. Tree peonies are not usually as hardy as Herbaceous peonies but certainly deserve their place in the garden. In our northern climate, they can tolerate full sun. In the south, they should be provided with light shade. Tree peonies do benefit from a sheltered location in the winter.
'Shima-Nishiki' means fire flame in Japanese.
