Description
Common name: Black-eyed Susan, Gloriosa Daisy
Giant 5-inch flowers with bicolor rays in shades of yellow, orange, and red with a brown cone will put on a real show for you in your borders, flower beds, or containers from early summer straight through till the fall. Compact habit. This variety should be treated as an annual that is allowed to reseed.
Do not deadhead these cones if you want winter interest since the black seed heads remain attractive throughout the winter and the seeds provide a source of food for small birds.
Rudbeckia hirta is a Biennial or short-lived perennial that is winter hardy to Zones 4-8. Whether or not plants survive from one year to the next, they freely self-seed and will usually remain in the garden through self-seeding.
