A flirty collar of red and cream-toned bracts surrounds the pincushion-like, dark wine-red florets. Astrantia ‘Abbey Road’ is prized for fresh or dried floral arrangements. Picking flowers results in even more blooms that will last all summer long. For added interest, bracts remain attractive even after the flowers fade.

Astrantia is a wonderful woodland plant prefering moist, shady areas rich in organic matter. Excellent for the shady perennial border or for naturalizing along a stream. Plants bloom early to late summer on tall stems and they are excellent cut flowers.

Flower Description: Rounded buttonhead flowers cupped with colorful star-shaped bracts. ‘Abbey Road’ flowers are a beautiful dark wine-red and occur in clusters on strong, purple stems. Free-flowering and make for great cuttings. 

Light Requirement: Full Sun to Partial Shade.

Soil Type: Happiest in a moist soil that drains well and would not be happy in a hot dry site.
