Description

 Common Name: Canna Lily, ‘Cleopatra’

‘Cleopatra’ is an unstable hybrid,  dating back to 1895. This hybrid has been popular since its introduction but is not widely available. ‘Cleopatra’ gives rise to extraordinary combinations of color, no two flowers are alike.  Foliage also displays traits of the unstable genes with irregular brown and green leaf patterns. Blooming from mid-summer to fall, this intriguing canna is perfect for the sunny border or large containers. A very popular cultivar since its introduction in 1895. Grows up to 3-4 ft tall

Ideal for water gardens, ponds and bogs. They thrive near water and in wet boggy areas where other plants will not grow. Cannas bloom in the summer through till the fall.

Size: Rhizome, 2-3 eye

Height: 30.0-40.0”

Flower/Foliage Description:

Light Requirement : Full Sun to Partial Shade. Bloom best in full sun.

Soil Type: It requires an evenly moist well-drained soil for optimal growth, but will die in standing water. It is not particular as to soil pH, but grows best in rich soils.

Hardiness Zones: 8,9,10,11,12

Attributes: Deer Resistant, Attracts Bees, Attracts Butterflies, Attracts Hummingbirds, Fast Growth, Showy Flower, Showy Foliage, Cut Flower, Cut Foliage, Rebloomer, Long Bloom

Care: Occasional Care, Remove flower stalks when they have finished blooming.

Bulbs: Before the first frost bulbs should be removed from the ground, cleaned off, and stored indoors in a dry area. The bulbs can be replanted outdoors in spring, after the ground warms to 50 degrees or more or started inside early. If starting inside do this around early April. Water sparingly until sings of life start. I find it useful to place the root in a bag of lightly moist potting soil and place this bag on a south facing windowsill. Cannas love heat so this method works well and is very quick.
