Description
Common Name: Gooseneck loosestrife
Gooseneck loosestrife is an erect, clump-forming perennial which spreads by underground stems to form large colonies. Tiny, star-shaped, white flowers are born on large spikes that arch above the foliage. As the common name suggests, each gracefully curved raceme is shaped in a manner purportedly resembling a goose’s neck. Blooms late spring to early summer. Valued by florists for fresh cut flower arrangements.
Consider planting en mass in a remote part of the border where it can be allowed to naturalize in broad drifts without posing a threat to less vigorous perennials. Can also be grown effectively in moist soils along or near streams or ponds or in wet meadows.
The flowers are excellent in fresh-cut bouquets.
