Common Name: Elderberry, Black Lace®

Black Lace® elderberry is a perfectly stylish addition to your landscape.

Intense purple black foliage is finely cut like lace, giving it an effect similar to that of Japanese maple. Indeed, some designers are using it in place of more sensitive plants since Black Lace is extremely durable and adaptable.

Pink flowers in early summer contrast with the dark leaves for a stunning effect and give way to black berries if a compatible pollinator is planted nearby.

Size: 4in Potted Plant (1 quart)

Height: 6.0-8.0’

Spread: 6.0-8.0’

Flower Description: Creamy pink flowers emerge in clusters (10” wide) with a sweet lemon scent by early summer, quickly covering the shrub and persisting until fall.  Pollinated flowers yield highly ornamental purple-black berries. The unique black to black/purple foliage starkly accentuates flowers and deepens the look of berries. The flowers and cooked fruit can be used for flavoring and are said to have medicinal benefits. The berries can also be used to make delicious jam or wine.

Note: To produce berries, you’ll need a Black Lace®, Instant Karma®, or Black Beauty as a pollinator
