Description

Common Name: Botanical Tulip ‘Praestans Shogun’, Tulipa praestans

Tulipa praestens ‘Shogun’ will do so much justice to your garden, with its multiflowering habit and vibrant yellow-orange blooms. Each robust stem bears 2-3 dainty but bold flowers that feature a charming display of orange-red speckles inside each open-cupped petal. The low-growing ‘Shogun’ is perfect for filling in spaces left by taller growing varieties, creating a lovely carpet of colour at the feet of traditional tulips or other spring-blooming bulb plants. A fantastic naturalizer, it returns dependably year after year.

Botanical tulips are what tulips used to look like and still look like in the wild. They are smaller in bulb size, height, and flower size than your standard spring tulips but they are just as colourful and perhaps a little bit more sophisticated. They look more like sparkling jewels than a big brash boisterous flower.

Bulbs require well drained soil. Will not perform well if soil holds too much water. Add sand or grit to the bottom of the hole to improve drainage.
