Description

Common Name: Beardtongue, DAKOTA(™) Burgundy

Glossy, purple black leaves are eye-grabbing on this very hardy perennial. Lovely lavender to violet flowers emerge in June, which are loved by hummingbirds.

Shorter and more compact than ‘Dark Towers’ or ‘Mystica’, this variety is tough and long lived.

Flower Description: Flowers are tubular and more lavender to violet rather than pink like other varieties. Dark seed heads are great as cut “flowers” in fall. Foliage shows dramatic shades from red-purple to black. 

Light Requirement: Full Sun to Partial Sun. Best foliage colour in full sun.

Soil Type: Thrives in average to humus-rich, well-drained soils. Prefers dry to moderate moisture; avoid wet, poorly-drained sites.
