Description

Common name: Big ‘O’, Omeo Gum, Omeo Eucalyptus 

This Southern Euc is a small, fast growing tree that will beg to be planted as a focal point in your garden. It is a clean, straight trunk with rough, fibrous grey bark, turning more smooth grey-green above. A lightly fragrant, colourful foliage of vivid blue with red highlights will be accented by large clusters of white flowers in late winter.

Big ‘0’ is one of the few Eucalyptus trees that will do well in light shade. It responds well to pruning, making it versatile as a shrub; with its small size and fragrance, try it out as focal piece for the deck, porch, or patio!

Age/Size: 2-years old in 1 gallon pot. 

Height: 20.0-45.0’ much less when grown in pots. 

Spread: 8.0-13.0’ much less when grown in pots.

Ornamental Details: Bark rough, fibrous, grey on trunk, smooth gray-green and green above.  Young stems are square then become round.  

Juvenile leaves opposite, sessile (without a petiole), broadly elliptic to rounded, red mid-rib. New foliage is rose-purplish.                                                                             
Adult leaves simple, alternate, lanceolate, about 3.0-6.0 ” long and 1.0-1.5“ wide, thin, on a flattened green petiole <1.0” long.  

Flowers born in clusters and are white or cream. Fruit is hemispherical.

Light Requirement: Full Sun to Partial Shade. 

Soil Type: Prefer well-draining soil with light moisture.
