Description

Common name: Herbaceous Peony

Salmon pink, semi-double flowers with very appealing cup-shaped guards. With maturing of the plant, the blooms can develop more and more petals in the center. The flower shape can be characterized as flat, forming a very intriguing bloom. Strong stems with densely packed foliage keep up the flowers easily and withstand pretty much any type of weather. Many of the exceptionally nice plant qualities of her seed parent ‘Salmon Dream’ can be found in ‘Mary Gretchen’ also. Anne Oveson, the introducer of this asset for the peony world, has honored her aunt, Mary Gretchen Oliver, by giving this peony her name. ‘Mary Gretchen’ is very rarely offered. (Seidl/Oveson, 1995).
