Common Name: ‘Vesuvian’ Tree Peony, Tree Hybrid Peony, Lutea hybrid
(Saunders 1948) – Deep purple almost black flowers have a glossy sheen to them. ‘Vesuvian’ has a cut leaf growing on a lower plant than many of the tree peonies.
This F1 lutea hybrid has dark semi-double to double red flowers that can almost appear purple or black, appearing midseason. The outer petals open flat and inner wavy petals are grouped closely and face forward. Red stigmas, sheath and stamens. Produces mound shaped plants with finely cut deep green foliage. Excellent and easy grower, has a slight fragrance.
