Description

Common name: Crocus

Crocus Sativus is grown for its red stamens which we know as Saffron. You harvest the res stamens as soon as the flowers open and allow then to dry in a cool dark spot before storing them to use in recipes.

Fall flowering crocus will bloom a few weeks after you plant them. They bring much needed color to you fall garden. In the spring their leaves will appear, they will die back by early summer with blooms to follow again in the fall.   Plant in groups for best display. Full sun is best, will tolerate light shade. Well drained soil is best for bulbs.

Bulbs require well drained soil. Will not perform well if soil holds to much water. Add sand or grit to the bottom of the hole to improve drainage.
